Volunteers Sought for Hui Xiaozhe Reading Outreach Program
The STU Youth League Committee and Shantou Huitzeren Volunteer Service Center have launched the Hui Xiaozhe Reading outreach program, recruiting volunteers from across the university to provide online academic tutoring and reading companionship for children in remote rural areas.
Background
Launched by Shantou Huitzeren Volunteer Service Center and powered through the Qi’e Zhijiao platform, the program organizes university student volunteers to deliver academic support and reading activities for children lacking educational resources. Since March 2025, the STU Youth League Committee has jointly conducted multiple rounds of online tutoring for several primary schools in Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, building a strong foundation for local–university volunteer cooperation.
Duration and Scope
The program began in July 2026 and will run for half a year. There is no cap on recruitment, and all SHU students are welcome to participate.
What Volunteers Do
Each matched student receives one online tutoring session per week. Each session must be no less than one hour, with a recommendation of one to one-and-a-half hours. Volunteers are free to arrange their own time slots, which will be coordinated by the Huitzeren Volunteer Service Center.
