English Language Center Issues Notes on English Course Registration; Comprehensive English I to End in 2026
It is reported that the English Language Center of the College of Arts has issued important notes on English course registration for all undergraduate students, covering the scheduling and adjustment rules for courses including Comprehensive English I and Language and Intercultural Communication.
Comprehensive English I: Last Offering in Fall 2026
Comprehensive English I will be offered for the last time in the Fall 2026 semester for students in cohorts 2023–2025. Students who have not yet taken the course should plan their schedules in advance to ensure enrollment. From 2027 onward, students who previously needed to take this course must choose alternative replacement courses to fulfill credit requirements.
Language and Intercultural Communication: Limited Seats
Language and Intercultural Communication has limited seats in the Fall semester. If all seats are filled during the registration period, no over-capacity enrollment applications will be accepted. Students who fail to enroll in Fall 2026 may take the course in Spring 2027 or a later semester.
Required Courses and Prerequisites
Comprehensive English I, Comprehensive English II, and Language and Intercultural Communication are compulsory public English courses for students in the 2023 and 2024 cohorts (excluding those majoring in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages, Arts, Law, and English). These three courses have a sequential prerequisite structure, and students must take them in order based on their placement test results.
Course Adjustment Rules
To ensure fairness in course selection, students who are removed from their originally assigned class during the first round of registration must adjust their schedules independently and enroll in other available classes. Those unable to make adjustments due to special circumstances may submit an online application during the designated change request period through the academic affairs system, from 15:00 on September 9 to 17:00 on September 10, 2026. Instructor consent is not required when submitting the online application.
