Abstract
The growing reliance on data collection and monetization in business models has heightened public privacy concerns and regulatory scrutiny. The lecture focuses on a fundamental yet underexplored issue—information opacity, where consumers cannot observe or verify firms’ data handling practices. By comparing three regulatory regimes—no regulation, transparency regulation, and prohibition regulation—the study explores the economic effects and policy implications of privacy regulation.
