According to the Shantou Meteorological Bureau, a strong precipitation cloud system brought heavy to torrential rain to the city on the night of June 13, with some areas experiencing extraordinarily heavy rainfall. From June 14 to 17, the heavy rain is expected to continue, with an average accumulated rainfall of 130–180 mm; in parts of Chaoyang and Chaonan, totals could exceed 300 mm, possibly accompanied by thunderstorm winds of around force 8.

Soil moisture is currently extremely high, keeping the risks of flash floods, geological disasters, and urban waterlogging elevated. Coupled with strong winds over the sea, the severe weather poses significant hazards to travel safety. The Resource Management Office has issued the following safety advisory to all faculty and students.

SituationSafety Advice
General travelStay indoors during downpours and avoid non-essential outings
Walking outdoorsStay away from large trees, billboards, utility poles, and walls that may collapse; beware of lightning strikes and falling objects
Waterlogged campus roadsObserve conditions carefully, never wade into water recklessly, and watch out for open manhole covers
Returning indoorsClose doors and windows, and promptly clear balcony items to prevent objects from falling
Walking on campusSurfaces are slippery in the rain; walk slowly, especially on stairs, to avoid falls

The university urges all faculty and students to heighten their awareness, monitor weather updates closely, and stay safe through this round of heavy rainfall.
