Shantou Raises Flood Emergency Response to Level III Amid Heavy Rain
According to the Shantou Meteorological Bureau, heavy downpours have already struck Chaonan District, Chaoyang District, and Nan’ao County over the past 24 hours. Between June 14 and 16, under the combined influence of the southwest monsoon and a shear line, Shantou is forecast to continue seeing heavy rain, with localized torrential rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, short-duration intense rainfall, and severe convective weather such as brief winds of force 8–10.
In accordance with the Shantou Emergency Response Plan for Flood, Drought, Typhoon, and Frost Prevention and following consultation and assessment, the Shantou Flood, Drought, Typhoon, and Frost Prevention Headquarters decided to raise the flood emergency response from Level IV to Level III at 11:00 on June 14.
The university’s flood control headquarters has deployed measures for this round of heavy rainfall, requiring all units to take the situation seriously, assess disaster risks in light of actual conditions, promptly raise their emergency response levels, strengthen duty shifts and information reporting, and make every effort to defend against the heavy rain and possible secondary disasters. Units are also asked to evacuate people from hazardous areas as early as possible, step up drainage operations, and do their utmost to protect the lives and property of faculty and students while minimizing disaster losses.
The university reminds all faculty and students to monitor weather updates closely, avoid non-essential outdoor activities during severe convective weather, and guard against safety hazards from thunderstorms, brief strong winds, and localized waterlogging.
