Overview
This book is one volume of the Oral History Series of Overseas Teochew Chinese edited by Tang Rui, STU Party Secretary. It represents a significant academic achievement by the Business School in implementing the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s 2020重要讲话 on overseas Chinese affairs during his Chaoshan inspection.
Professor Zheng Muqiang led a team of faculty and students on over 20 research trips to Thailand, spending more than two years interviewing over 100 overseas Chinese leaders and相关人员. The team collected extensive珍贵影像 and compiled over 2 million words of original historical materials,最終 refining them into a final manuscript of over 300,000 words.
The book features 20 influential Teochew Chinese leaders—including Xie Guomin, Lin Chuqin, and Xu Huishen—who have made remarkable contributions in business, philanthropy, education, and cultural dissemination in Thailand. It presents their entrepreneurial journeys, contributions to Thai-Chinese society, and deep ties to their ancestral homeland, offering valuable primary sources for the study of overseas Chinese business history and Southeast Asian economic development.
