It is reported that on the morning of June 9, a delegation from the School of Media at Guangxi Minzu University visited the School of Journalism and Communication at Shantou University. The two sides held a symposium focusing on international journalism and communication program development, talent cultivation plans, internationalized curriculum systems, and practical teaching models.

STU was represented by Vice Dean Ding Zhibo, International Journalism and Communication Program Director Feng Yueji, Laboratory Committee Chair Hou Zhengdong, and other faculty members. The Guangxi delegation included Qin Shengyun (International Journalism and Communication Program Director), Long Teng (Communication Teaching and Research Office Director), Qian Zhihan (Journalism Teaching and Research Office Director), and faculty member Hu Jiehong.

Ding Zhibo welcomed the visiting delegation and presented the school’s educational philosophy of “internationalization, practice-orientation, and forward-looking vision,” along with its recent achievements in discipline development, collaborative education, and excellence in talent cultivation. She highlighted the school’s “Fan Changjiang Class” program for outstanding journalism talent, as well as its annual “Beijing Internship Group” and “Retracing China’s Northwest” study tour initiatives.

Feng Yueji detailed the program’s discipline development progress and curriculum design, emphasizing that the program closely follows national strategic needs and has built a course matrix centered on cross-cultural communication and international communication practice. The curriculum uses compulsory courses to build foundations and electives to expand directions, aiming to cultivate composite talents with global vision and cross-cultural communication skills.

Qin Shengyun introduced Guangxi Minzu University’s School of Media and shared the development strategy of its newly established School of International Communication — the first of its kind among Guangxi universities, inaugurated in March. She noted that leveraging Guangxi’s geographic advantage facing ASEAN, the school aims to build a hub for ASEAN-oriented international communication talent and hopes to learn from STU’s experience in program development.

The two sides also held in-depth discussions on internationalized faculty development, student foreign language enhancement, overseas exchange opportunities, and internship and employment platforms, reaching consensus on multiple fronts.

After the symposium, the delegation visited four teaching laboratories on the 7th floor of Building E at the Donghai Campus, giving high praise to the school’s advanced facilities and systematic practical teaching conditions.
