To advance chemistry research and broaden academic perspectives across campus, Shantou University will host the 64th Yangtze River Forum on June 8, featuring CAS Academician Chen Xiaoming from Sun Yat-sen University.

The lecture, titled “Metal-Organic Frameworks: From Origins to the Nobel Prize,” will take place at 15:00 in the Science Auditorium on the Sangpu Mountain Campus.

Speaker Profile

Chen Xiaoming was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2009 and as a fellow of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS) in 2014. His research focuses on coordination polymers and metal-organic framework (MOF) materials, including synthesis, structural design, and functional applications such as gas adsorption, separation, and CO₂ conversion. More recently, his team has developed thermally stable organic-inorganic hybrid energetic crystalline materials, with one material entering practical use.

Chen has published over 620 papers in leading journals including Science, National Science Review, Nature sub-journals, JACS, and Angewandte Chemie. He has received the National Natural Science Award, the TWAS Chemistry Award, and the International Award of the Japanese Coordination Chemistry Society, among other distinctions.
