Journalism College and Xingchuan College Host 'Light and Quill: Xingchuan Media Growth Camp' Skills Training Series

The School of Journalism and Communication and Xingchuan College jointly launched “Light and Quill: Xingchuan Media Growth Camp,” a multi-session skills training series aimed at fulfilling the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education. The program seeks to enhance student media literacy and integrated communications capabilities, cultivating versatile journalism talents “who can write, shoot, report, and edit” to support high-quality campus communications.

The sessions feature veteran journalists, industry leaders, and accomplished alumni as speakers, and focus on core competencies including news writing, video production, and new media operations.

Schedule

Five sessions are planned. The first three are confirmed for June 6–7 in the Xingchuan College second-floor conference room:

Speakers

  • Cao Huanghuang: Founder and technical lead of Flying Cinema, industry lecturer at the School of Journalism and Communication, and guest lecturer at the Information Engineering Department of the East Guangdong Technician College, with over ten years of video production experience.
  • Zhou Longfeng: Class of 2005 journalism alumna, senior journalist with Foshan Media Culture & Tourism Group, 16 years of frontline reporting, and multi-format storytelling award winner at the provincial level and above. Successfully transitioned into an integrated media journalist.
  • Xiao Hui: Entertainment marketing practitioner at Jiangsu Zhizhou Culture Development Co., Ltd., with extensive experience serving Tencent Video, Douyin, CCTV, and Dragon TV, contributing to major productions.
  • Ye Nannan: Deputy Director of the Integrated Media Office of the STU Party Committee Publicity and United Front Department and editor of the Shantou University Journal, responsible for official campus media content and communications planning.
  • Xie Yanlin: Class of 2019 broadcasting alumna, now a master’s student at Jinan University’s School of Journalism and Communication, and former editor-in-chief of the Zhixing College Media Center, specializing in campus new media operations.

Requirements

All members of the 11th Xingchuan College Media Center are required to attend the full series. Communications representatives from student organizations including the Changjiang News Society, Student Union, and Youth Volunteers Association are also encouraged to register. Participants should arrive 10 minutes early for check-in, silence phones, and actively engage during sessions. Details for the two mid-June sessions will be announced separately.
