Overview

To promote art education and relieve academic stress, the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and Zhixing College held the 16th “Wake Up Dopamine” workshop on May 16 — the “Lithium-Painted Fans: Ancient Charm with Chemistry” intangible heritage lacquer fan DIY experience, with 20 students participating.

Activities

A student from the 2024 Materials Science and Engineering cohort explained the chemistry behind lacquer fan coloring, rendering, and fixing, bridging professional knowledge with traditional craft. Staff then demonstrated the full process from paint mixing, tool use, to blending techniques and pattern design.

Students then created their own lacquer fans, each piece showcasing a unique blend of Eastern aesthetics and youthful creativity.

The event integrated chemistry knowledge, intangible cultural heritage lacquer techniques, and hands-on skill development. More cultural activities are planned by the college and Zhixing College moving forward.
