It is reported that on May 31, the External Liaison Office (Alumni Affairs Office) and the College of Mathematics and Computer Science jointly held the 2026 7th Alumni Forum and the 3rd installment of the “Alumni Speak” lecture series in Room 128, Building E, Donghaian Campus. Dr. Liu and Dr. Li, both 2002 Computer Science alumni of Shantou University, served as guest speakers, delivering two frontier lectures on artificial intelligence. The event was hosted by Lin Yu, Deputy Party Secretary of the College of Mathematics and Computer Science.

At the outset, Yu Jin, a retired Computer Science faculty member and university-level teaching supervisor, introduced the two alumni’s academic and career journeys from Shantou University to the global stage, encouraging students to look to outstanding alumni as role models.

Development and Applications of AI Assistants and Smart Glasses

Dr. Liu presented on “The Development and Applications of Intelligent Assistants and Smart Glasses.” Starting with his own academic journey, he shared early experiences in voice assistant R&D and over a decade of deep work in the smart hardware field. He systematically broke down the underlying system architecture of voice assistants and current mainstream smart hardware product forms.

Focusing on smart glasses as a frontier product, Dr. Liu detailed existing technical challenges, unique advantages, and practical features, further identifying three core development directions for next-generation human-computer interaction systems. Looking ahead, he told students that the next revolution in wearable devices would be written by a new generation of young scholars.

During the interactive session, Dr. Liu provided detailed answers to student questions about product implementation, drawing on real-world examples from major tech companies.

Current Progress and Engineering Practice of AI Agents

Dr. Li presented on “Current Progress and Engineering Practice of AI Agents.” He traced the topic from the classic Turing Test, used first principles to unpack 70 years of AI evolution, and comprehensively reviewed decades of development in neural networks and deep learning. From a frontline industry perspective, he revealed the underlying nature of contemporary large language models and discussed the implementation status and future direction of AI-native operating systems.

In the Q&A session, Dr. Li offered practical advice on effectively using AI tools and improving dataset training, drawing from his own study and work experience.

Concluding the event, Lin Yu encouraged students to deepen their expertise, keep pace with the AI technology wave, and hone their skills through both theoretical study and industrial practice.
