Role Model Series: Wang Haiting — Accumulating Small Steps Toward Excellence

Profile

Wang Haiting is a 2023 master’s student in surgery (breast, thyroid, and hernia surgery) at Shantou University Medical College. A member of the Communist Youth League, he is supervised by Chief Physician Li Zhiyang. His motto is “accumulate small steps to achieve great things; walk steadily toward a distant goal.”

Awards

Wang Haiting has received the 2024 National Scholarship for Graduate Students, a first prize at the 18th “Challenge Cup” Guangdong Provincial College Students’ Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition, a second prize and outstanding student honor at the 2025 Second Affiliated Hospital Skills Competition, and a second prize at the 2024 National Medical Graduate School Alliance Summer Graduate Forum.

Research and Clinical Achievements

Under the guidance of Supervisor Li Zhiyang, Wang Haiting focused on treatment challenges of triple-negative breast cancer, exploring the design and application of new nanomaterials. During his studies, he published a paper as co-first author in Small (Impact Factor 13.0), with another co-first-author paper under review. He also assisted his supervisor in applying for multiple fund projects, with 2 provincial-level projects successfully approved.

In academic competitions, he led his team to a first prize at the 18th “Challenge Cup” Guangdong Provincial Competition. During clinical rotations, he won a second prize at the hospital skills competition. For his combined research and clinical performance, he was awarded the National Scholarship for Graduate Students and a commendation from the Medical College.

Volunteer Service

In volunteer service and social practice, Wang Haiting has participated in multiple public welfare activities organized by the hospital, including free clinics and health education, fulfilling the social responsibility of medical students through practical action.
