Profile
Wu Ming is a Communist Party member, professor, doctoral supervisor, and Vice Director of the Civil and Smart Construction Engineering Department at the Faculty of Engineering. He previously served as Party Branch Secretary for the Civil Engineering Department and has been named an outstanding Communist Party member multiple times.
Teaching Achievements
Wu Ming pursues an educational philosophy of “nurturing silently like spring rain.” In the ideological and political reform of the Bridge Engineering course, he created the “One Core, Seven Dimensions, Five Integrations” paradigm, deeply integrating ideological elements into teaching and establishing a case library of seven historic bridges to embed red heritage and craftsmanship spirit in the classroom. He employs the “Lecture, Research, Practice, Presentation, Discussion” teaching method and practices OBE-CDIO philosophy to build advanced-level classrooms.
Over the past five years, he has led 5 provincial teaching reform projects, published 5 teaching reform papers, and authored 3 textbooks. He won a first prize at the national micro-course competition Guangdong division, two second prizes at the Guangdong Provincial College Teacher Teaching Innovation Competition, and other honors. The Bridge Engineering course he leads was approved as a national first-class undergraduate course, and Bridge Architecture Ethics and Aesthetics was approved as a Guangdong provincial first-class course. In 2022, he received the Li Ka Shing Foundation Excellence in Teaching Award, and in 2025, he was named an Outstanding Teacher of Nanyue.
Research
Over the past five years, Wu Ming has participated in 2 National Natural Science Foundation projects and 3 Guangdong Provincial Natural Science Foundation projects, published 12 papers in international journals including Structures and Case Studies in Construction Materials, applied for 4 patents, and won a second prize at the National Invention Award. He believes that the purpose of research is not to publish papers but to bring cutting-edge results into the classroom.
Student Innovation Development
Wu Ming places great emphasis on cultivating student innovation. Over five years, his supervised students have won 37 national-level awards and 9 provincial-level awards in various discipline competitions, including special and first prizes at the National College Student Bridge Design Competition and the BIM Graduation Design Innovation Competition. His team has won first prizes at the national BIM Graduation Design Competition for multiple consecutive years.
Honors
In 2021, he received a second prize at the first Guangdong Provincial College Teacher Teaching Innovation Competition and a first prize for excellent online teaching course cases. In 2023, Bridge Architecture Ethics and Aesthetics was approved as a Guangdong provincial first-class course and Bridge Engineering as a national first-class course. In 2025, he was named an Outstanding Teacher of Nanyue, received a second prize for Guangdong provincial undergraduate education teaching achievement, and other honors.
