Students Voice Concerns for Cleaners, School Responds Within 24 Hours
Student Initiative
According to the STU official WeChat account, on May 24, students noticed that after cleaning the campus in the scorching heat,保洁 workers could only rest in cramped, poorly ventilated accessible bathrooms to avoid disturbing staff and students. Students compiled their concerns and wrote to the university, requesting proper rest facilities.
University Response
The East Coast Campus Management Committee acted immediately upon receiving the letters. Investigation confirmed that the university had already designated multiple rest rooms (B201-203, E115, etc.) totaling over 200 sqm with good ventilation and lighting for rotating shifts and storage.
The committee guided employees who had not yet used the designated rooms to the proper facilities and cleaned the affected public spaces. The university further committed to purchasing rest benches, adding temporary rest stations, and setting up additional small rest rooms in each building.
From first receiving the letters to completing the response, the entire process took less than 24 hours. Formal replies were sent via the President’s Mailbox on May 26.
