Engineering Professor Yang Nan: Pioneering Research and Dedicated Teaching
Profile
Yang Nan, a CPC member, is a professor and doctoral supervisor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, College of Engineering. He has been listed among the world’s top 2% scientists and has published over 50 high-level SCI papers.
Research Breakthroughs
Professor Yang’s team focuses on the torsional coupling properties of chiral metamaterials. They innovatively designed a 3D-printed chiral system achieving programmable stiffness through inter-unit interactions, successfully constructing a full series of basic logic gates and a half-adder system. The findings were published in the CAS Q1 journal Virtual and Physical Prototyping, offering a new approach for mechanical computing in extreme environments.
Teaching Achievements
Professor Yang actively mentors undergraduates in research. He gives lectures on scientific paper writing and mechanical metamaterials at residential colleges. Student Luo J., a 2023 undergraduate, participated in core research published in a CAS Q1 journal under his guidance.
Recent student competition awards include: China Mechanical Engineering Innovation and Creativity Competition regional third prize, “Challenge Cup” Guangdong third prize, and China Graduate Electronic Design Competition national third prize.
Industry Collaboration
Professor Yang has visited enterprises and hospitals in Shantou and Shenzhen to promote the application of research成果 in porous lightweight structures and flexible intelligent structures, supporting enterprise technology upgrades.
