Overview

On the afternoon of May 13, with support from the Guanghua Street Youth League Working Committee, the STU College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (Carbon Neutrality Future Technology College) Youth League Committee and Zhi Xing College visited Shantou No. 11 School to conduct a themed volunteer activity titled “Safety Science Spreads Virtue, Children Build Safety Dreams Together.”

The initiative aimed to integrate chemical safety knowledge, hazardous chemical identification, and campus/home safety practices into youth education, enhancing students’ safety awareness and emergency self-protection skills.

Interactive Science Lectures

The science outreach team tailored their presentation to primary and secondary school students, using animated videos and cartoon materials. Through interactive formats such as “Hazardous Item Identification” and “Safety Challenge,” they explained common chemical hazards and daily safety practices. The session also incorporated integrity education, linking safety rules with character development.

Hands-On Practice

After the lecture, three themed zones were set up: Fun Science, Interactive Experience, and Creative Arts. Activities included safety knowledge puzzles, quizzes, hazard challenges, scenario simulations, and safety-themed crafts. Students participated in teams, completing checkpoints and hands-on tasks to reinforce safety knowledge and practice emergency response skills.

Significance

This activity represents an important practice of leveraging disciplinary strengths and promoting campus-community collaborative education. Moving forward, the college and Zhi Xing College will continue to use the Lab Safety Culture Festival platform to regularly conduct science outreach volunteer services.
