5th Multilingual Cultural Season Fair: 'Chaoshan Crafts, New Chapters in Language' Successfully Held

On May 16, 2026, the School of Arts and Siyuan College co-hosted the 5th Multilingual Cultural Season fair — “Chaoshan Crafts, New Chapters in Language” — at Sangpushan Campus. The event encouraged students to explore Chaoshan traditional crafts through a multilingual lens, deepening the integration of intangible cultural heritage with multilingual skills.
Seven Themed Booths
The fair featured seven themed booths covering paper cutting, oil-paper lanterns, crochet, Gongfu tea, and calligraphy rubbing, paired with Mandarin, Chaoshan dialect, English, and Spanish contexts. The venue transformed into an immersive cultural garden walk.
Students tried their hand at paper cutting and crochet, participated in lantern-making challenges, calligraphy appreciation, and tea ceremony demonstrations. The event also incorporated multilingual interactions and voice recognition challenges, blending traditional folk culture with smart technology.
Significance
Through traditional crafts as a gateway, students gained a deeper understanding of Chaoshan’s rich intangible cultural heritage while experiencing the unique charm of multilingual expression and cultural preservation. The event enhanced cultural literacy and cross-cultural communication skills, laying a solid foundation for a diverse and inclusive campus atmosphere.
