Overview

To commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Red Army’s Long March victory, the STU Student Affairs Office and Youth League Committee are organizing the sixth installment of the “Retracing the Long March” educational expedition. Previous expeditions included crossing snow mountains, traversing grasslands, fording the Chishui River, passing through Lazikou, and departing from Yudu.

Route and Itinerary

This year’s expedition spans Gansu, Ningxia, and Shaanxi provinces. The route follows the Red Army’s footsteps from Shanjiatan in Ningxia, through Liupan Mountain (including the Red Cliff Village, Niutou Peak, and the Red Army Long March Memorial Hall), Xiaoguan Ancient Road, Qingshizui, and onward to Shanjiabu, before heading north to Wuqi Victory Mountain and the revolutionary base of Yan’an.

The total trek covers approximately 80 km over 4 days and 3 nights, with a full trip duration of 9 days and 8 nights (August 20–29, 2026). The team of about 35 includes 18 students, 6 faculty and university leaders, 1 team doctor, and 10 outdoor coaches and local guides. Professional support is provided by the Chinese Mountaineering Association and the Lanzhou Outdoor Sports Association.
