The third session of the “Mentor Meetup” series, jointly organized by the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and Zhixing Academy, was held on the afternoon of May 25 at the 4th Floor Meeting Room of Zhixing Academy. Themed “Research Exploration and Life Choices,” the event featured Professor Huang Xiaochun, Dean of both the Chemistry School and Zhixing Academy, as the guest speaker. Li Xiaoyan, Deputy Party Secretary of the College and Vice Dean of Zhixing Academy, moderated the session, with 22 undergraduate and graduate students in attendance.
Discussion Highlights
Drawing from her own academic and professional journey, Professor Huang addressed students’ concerns regarding graduate exam preparation, school selection, getting started in research, project direction, and academic planning. For undergraduates, she shared practical advice on goal setting, information gathering, and time management. For graduate students facing research bottlenecks, she drew on real cases from her own career to illustrate how to navigate difficulties, adjust mindsets, and persist in exploration.
Significance
The “Mentor Meetup” series represents a key initiative by the Chemistry School and Zhixing Academy to deepen dual-college collaborative education, providing regular, close, and in-depth faculty-student dialogue to leverage mentors’ guiding roles in student development.
