Third Annual 'Energy Star' Dormitory Competition Launches at Shantou University
It is reported that the Green Ribbon Environmental Protection Volunteer Team, affiliated with Shantou University’s Youth Volunteer Association, has officially launched the third “Energy Star” dormitory competition, themed “Pursue Green Fashion, Embrace Low-Carbon Living.”
Event Period
November 2014 to January 2015
Awards
Dormitories participate as units, with three award categories available:
| Award | Quota | Criteria |
|---|---|---|
| Super Low-Carbon Award | 5 dorms | Dorms with the lowest per-capita electricity consumption across November and December |
| Leap Energy-Saving Award | 9 dorms (first, second, third prizes) | Dorms with the highest per-capita energy savings compared to October baseline |
| Save-a-Bag Award | 10 dorms per month | Dorms with the most per-capita savings in November and December respectively; each member receives an eco-bag |
Calculation Methods
- Per-capita total consumption = (November electricity + December electricity) / number of valid residents
- Per-capita total savings = {(October - November electricity) + (October - December electricity)} / number of valid residents
- Monthly per-capita savings = (October electricity - Monthly electricity) / number of valid residents
The number of valid residents is based on the Dormitory Committee’s official occupancy list.
Registration
Interested dormitories may register through any of the following channels:
- Download the registration form, fill it out, and email it to STUjnzx@163.com by November 6 at 22:00
- Register in person at the Golden Triangle booth on November 1 from 9:00 to 14:00
- Follow the Green Ribbon WeChat account STULSD and reply with “Energy Star Registration: Name + long number + short number + email + participating dorm + actual occupancy”
An energy-saving leaderboard will be posted on dormitory bulletin boards, the Green Ribbon WeChat account, and the campus intranet in early December and early January.
