STU Library Hosts Lecture on Retrieval and Access to STEM E-Journals

It is reported that the University Library of Shantou University will host a lecture titled “Retrieval and Access to STEM E-Journals” on the evening of October 30, 2014 (Thursday), from 19:30 to 20:30, at the Subject Services Department (second-floor reference desk). The lecture is part of the 2014 “Subject Literature Services” series and will be presented by Zeng Zhaohong. Faculty and students are welcome to attend.

Lecture Content

The lecture covers two parts: Chinese and foreign e-journals in science, technology, and engineering disciplines, introducing commonly used academic databases.

Chinese E-Journals for STEM Fields

The session will introduce methods for retrieving and accessing Chinese-language e-journals in STEM fields, with a focus on advanced search techniques in CNKI’s China Academic Journals Full-Text Database, helping faculty and students locate and utilize academic resources more efficiently.

Foreign E-Journals for STEM Fields

The foreign-language portion will cover the following topics:

Ei Compendex Introduction and retrieval methods for the Engineering Index database
Professional Society E-Journals Overview of library-subscribed databases including ACM, ACS, AIP, APS, ASCE, IEL, IOP, RSC, and MathSciNet
Full-Text Download Rankings Sharing download statistics across e-journal databases to highlight the journals most frequently read by STU faculty and students
Open Access Journals Introduction to Open Access Journal publishing
