2014 Winter Break Begins January 19; Boarding Students Required to Apply Online
It is reported that Shantou University’s winter break for 2014 runs from January 19 to February 22. The university has issued a notice outlining procedures for students wishing to remain on campus during the break, including application processes, utility fee arrangements, and safety regulations.
Application Process
Students who need to remain on campus during winter break for academic research, public service activities, graduate school exam preparation, or other essential reasons must log in to the student dormitory management system at dorm.stu.edu.cn with their campus network credentials between now and January 20 to submit an online application. Applicants are required to fill in details including their intended stay period, contact phone number, and a description of the reason for staying.
Students who miss the initial application deadline may submit a supplementary application through the dormitory management system until 16:00 on weekdays during the break. The process involves student submission, review by the dormitory area counselor’s office, activation of utilities by the water and electricity center, and access authorization by the student community management service center.
Utility Fees
Water and electricity usage in student dormitories during the winter break period (January 23 to February 18) will be charged to students who have applied for and been approved to remain on campus, with no additional subsidy for holiday utility consumption. Where roommates have differing actual usage during the break, arrangements for cost sharing and payment should be resolved among the students themselves.
Dormitories without approved boarding students will have power disconnected starting January 23, with service restored uniformly on February 19 for the new semester. Students whose approved boarding status ends early (and no other roommate remains approved for the break) must register for power disconnection at the student community management service center; failure to do so will result in all utility charges during the break being jointly borne by the approved boarding students in that dormitory.
Undergraduate dormitory hot water supply has been extended until January 23, with normal service resuming February 19. During the break, hot water will be supplied at scheduled times in dormitories G and J, and at scheduled times and locations in dormitories A, B, C, D, E, and F. Specific arrangements will be announced separately by the student community management service center.
Safety and Security
Access control will be in effect throughout all dormitory buildings during the winter break, and the cafeteria entrances in Buildings A and D will be closed. Approved boarding students must carry their ST Card at all times and swipe it upon entering and exiting the dormitory area; students without approved boarding status will have their access authorization revoked. Overnight lodging of non-students is prohibited, and violations will be dealt with according to relevant regulations.
Boarding students are reminded to maintain heightened awareness of personal and property safety, ensuring doors, windows, water, and electricity are secured when leaving their rooms. Any unusual circumstances or emergencies should be reported promptly to dormitory duty staff or the university security department.
